Robert Edwards Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 10, 2026.
Robert Marcus Edwards, III, was born in Memphis TN on July 1, 1930, and departed this world on February 9, 2026, at the age of 95. He was the loving son of Robert Marcus Edwards, Jr. and Lillian. He was raised and went to school in Clarksdale, MS, for which city he always maintained a great fondness, but he lived in Memphis, TN most of his life. He attended the University of Ole Miss and never missed watching a football game to root them on, even as of just a few weeks ago.

He was a devoted spouse to his wife, Lois, who predeceased him in May 2004, and is a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was known for his deep love of family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was called Bobby or Poompaw with great affection.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian, by his sister, Leilajean Huddleston, and by his grandson, Matthew Wright. He is survived by his children, Donna Gale, Marcus, and Russell. He also leaves behind his adored daughter-in-law, Alicia (Marcus), and his jovial son-in-law, Chris (Gale). He sadly also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Jeffrey Pingel (Susan), Shelby Edwards (Anna), Megan Edwards (Pierce Lovesee), Caitlin (Peyton East), Erin Rose (Jacob Fryer), Robin (Dawson Mullins), and Jessica Wright; and his great-grandchildren Hallie Blaire, Emma Grace, Leota Sun, Ellori Jude, Lennon Rose, and was so looking forward to great-granddaughter number 6 due in July.

Bobby joined the Army Reserve on August 1, 1951, and was called to Active Duty April 6, 1953, and his Korean United States Military Service was the thing of which he was most proud, where he rose to the rank of Staff Seargeant. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He owned and operated his own Mortgage Company and worked until he was 79 years old. He was funny, kind, and of his own mind. He left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Bobby had many hobbies and was never still. He loved all animals, great and small, football (Hotty Toddy!), woodworking (had great prowess in carving walking sticks), poker, collecting knives, coins, shot glasses, and military memorabilia, and a love of buying exquisite costume jewelry for his girls; he was a huge history buff and reader, and had an affinity for geology (you know, rocks). He was an extremely proud American, loved Donald J. Trump, and Fox News.

One cannot simply sum up in a few words Bobby's well-lived life of 95 years and 7 months, as he liked to always add the months to his age. He was deeply loved by family, friends and coworkers throughout his lifetime. He was grateful for his long life, and all the things he got to do and see during his earthly time. Although heartache was of course incurred, as is by all, he found a way to cope and to help others cope, as well. His sense of humor was unmatched and as many would say, he was truly one of a kind. He showed unconditional love in a way very few people get to experience.

"Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." – Matthew 25:23
