Robert Eichhammer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Georgia Cremation - Fayetteville on Feb. 14, 2026.
In Loving Memory of Robert William Eichhammer

July 24, 1956 – February 13, 2026

He grew up in Maryland, and after graduating from Duke University, he moved to Georgia.

Dr. E, as they called him, was an award-winning optometrist. He took immense pride in caring for generations of families who trusted him with their vision. To him, his patients were never just appointments on a schedule - they were people whose stories he remembered, whose milestones he celebrated, and whose well-being he genuinely cherished. His dedication earned him recognition as Best Optometrist in Fayetteville, created by one of his patients, a reflection of the profound impact he had on his community.

He was a Duke Blue Devil through and through, never missing a basketball game. Go Duke!

Beyond his professional achievements, he lived life fully and adventurously. He was well traveled and found particular peace at the lakes in Banff National Park, a place that brought him serenity and joy. Bob also enjoyed playing pickleball and tennis with his friends.

An avid dog lover, Bob poured endless love into his beloved pets. It brings comfort to know he will be greeted by the dogs who meant so much to him. His kindness extended not only to animals but to every person he encountered. He was known for his generosity, whether through thoughtful gifts, his time, or simple acts of care. He made it his mission to ensure others were happy and supported, often placing their needs above his own. He always sought to create fun, laughter, and lasting moments with those he loved.

In 2014, while on vacation in California, Bob survived a serious accident that tested him in unimaginable ways. Pulling through against all odds, he demonstrated extraordinary strength and resilience - qualities that defined him throughout his life.

Robert William Eichhammer will continue to live in the memories of his loved ones. He will be remembered as a kind, selfless memory-maker and dedicating his life to caring for others.

He has left us with a legacy of compassion, strength, and love.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking loved ones to make a charitable donation to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. It is a non-profit animal rescue. Bob loved dogs and it would be a more meaningful donation in his name.
