Robert "Bob" Elsner, 82, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed peacefully at Kingston Residence on Monday, August 25, 2025.
He was born on February 10, 1943, to Harry and Judy Elsner. Bob grew up in Salem, Ohio, and graduated from Salem High School in 1960. A proud Quaker, he was a key member of the 1960 football team that was later inducted into the Salem High School Hall of Fame. Bob's love of football continued throughout his life, and he was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Bears.
While still in high school, Bob met the love of his life, Emily Jane (Cusick) Elsner. They married in Florida, where Bob worked at a gas station owned by his father before eventually making their home in Indiana. Together, Bob and Jane raised their daughter, Robin, and shared countless cherished memories, especially at their family's lake house on Turkey Lake.
Bob worked for many years at Fruehauf before serving as a maintenance technician for Allen County. Outside of work, he was happiest outdoors. He loved fishing, boating, and spending time in nature. Bob was also a gifted artist whose creativity shone through in everything he did. He attended Thorne Creek Bethel Church of God, in Columbia City.
Above all, Bob will be remembered for his love of family and his generous heart. He was a devoted husband, father, and a fantastic uncle who made each of his nieces and nephews feel treasured, filling their lives with fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His many friends and loved ones will remember him for his humor, kindness, and zest for life.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will carry his memory forward. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Fred and Billy; and his sister, Gloria. His beloved wife, Emily Jane (Cusick) Elsner went to heaven before him on December 8th, 2024.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at Covington Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:30 am; Pastor Phil Harris will be officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 11:30 am, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Solace Hospice Care or Kingston Residence.
