Robert Oscar “Bob” Epperson, born on January 23, 1936, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Vinita, Oklahoma, at the age of 89. He was a dedicated and skilled professional who spent 18 years as a hydro operator at the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) before establishing his own successful business, Bob's Brake & Wheel.
Bob's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and community. He married Sonia Longmire on October 20, 1956, in Langley, Oklahoma. Together, they enjoyed a remarkable 68 years of marriage, building a loving home in a rural area that Bob cherished since childhood. He was proud to serve as a Deacon at the local Baptist church for several decades, exemplifying his deep faith and commitment to service.
In addition to his professional life, Bob was known for his passion for the outdoors and camaraderie with friends. He enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting and riding his four-wheeler in the scenic landscapes of Colorado. He also loved traveling in his travel trailer, where he created lasting memories fishing with dear friends. His love for cattle farming was evident as he raised and bred Brangus bulls, while his mechanical skills drew him to work on vehicles. Bob delighted in the simple pleasures of life, including mowing "Epperson Hill," a task that brought him much satisfaction.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sonia Epperson, of the home; son, John Epperson, and his wife Jinza of Vinita, OK; daughter, Cindy Pollet, also of Vinita, OK; and a brother, Jim Epperson. He was a devoted grandfather to Ty Epperson, John David Epperson, James Sands, and Celeste Weeks. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar "Ras" and Ludie (Ketchum) Epperson, as well as his sisters, Norma Blount and Billie James.
