Robert Escoe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harley Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. on Dec. 10, 2025.
Robert Maxie Escoe, 89, of Troy, husband of Nancy Alice Golden Escoe, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at his home.

Born on March 20, 1936, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Vance Escoe and Minnie Hazel Vest Escoe.

Maxie was a man of great integrity and commitment. He proudly served as a Police Officer for the City of Greenwood for 28 years, followed by a dedicated career as an Assistant Supervisor for the South Carolina Department of Corrections until his retirement. His service was distinguished not only by his dedication to law enforcement but also by his time spent in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he fulfilled his duty to his country.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Maxie had a deep passion for life. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, enjoyed cruising on his golf cart, and had a competitive spirit that led him to play baseball and softball in his younger years. Notably, he was part of the team that won the American Legion World Series in 1953. Maxie was known for his vibrant personality-he loved engaging with others, sharing stories, and connecting with people. Above all, Maxie cherished his family the most.

Maxie is survived by his wife, Nancy, whom he lovingly referred to as, "Honey Bun"; his daughter, Lisa Major (Dan Leo); his son, Vance Escoe (Tracey Fowler); his sister, Shelby Eliowitz; and his grandchildren, Ashley Rhodes, Brittney Major, John Major, Matthew Hurtt, Nikki Hurtt, Brook Grogan, Trey Grogan, Ty Grogan, Vance, Dallas, and Cassidy Escoe; and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Charles and Minnie, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Terrie Lynn Hurtt and Debra Jean Grogan; and brother, Charles Reese Escoe.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ty Grogan officiating.
