Rob was my first serious writing teacher, in the fall of 1983, his (and my) first year at Colby College. He was one of the best listeners I ever encountered. He also taught the first poetry workshop I ever took. He was taken from this world much too early. My consolation is that his encouraging and critical voice still lives in my head and continues to be my best teacher.

One of the best professors I ever had, and just a genuinely kind person. He will be deeply missed

To Georgia, Steadfast Friend: The best of Rob is part of you. My copy of Honest Water sits by my desk, and I remember Rob giving this to me so many years ago when I visited your gracious home in Lewiston. The hidden gem of The Pose and the "empty dress" breaks my heart. May he rest, finally at peace, in the arms of G-d.

Fall of 1966, at Nobles. We were all "sixies". I remember over the years that followed Rob and George talking endlessly about TS Elliot. The fascination totally eluded me until years later when I discovered a love of writing. Fond memories. Nobles shaped us all more than I think we had any idea at that time. RIP, Rob!

"Cheevers"- Rob always displayed a sparkling sense of humor, wit, and joie de vivre that I loved being around...we laughed very hard on many occasions..he was such a wonderful person in so many ways and a great friend to many of us. Chip Goode - N'72
