Robert Joseph Ferguson

Robert J. Ferguson, Sr., Age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Known to many as Bob, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Bob cherished time spent with loved ones, especially during family holidays-and found peace in quiet moments by the beach and on his 26-acre farm in Middletown. He had a lifelong passion for working on cars, often side by side with his close friends Dan Carpenter and Jim McFarland.
A proud patriot, Bob served with honor in the United States military for 22 years, with deployments in Cuba, Vietnam, and during Desert Storm. His military career spanned two periods: 1961–1967 and 1982–1997. For his bravery in combat, he was awarded the Purple Heart-an enduring symbol of his courage and sacrifice.
In his civilian life, Bob held a variety of roles before retiring as a respected supervisor in the Special Services Department at the New Castle County Police Headquarters.
He remained active in his community as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Survivors (FOPS), American Legion Post 28, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Lewes Redmen's Tribe 37.
Bob is survived by his children, Michelle Becker of Middletown and Robert Ferguson Jr. (Linda), also of Middletown. He was a proud grandfather to Mark Garvey, Bobby Ferguson (Manuela), Kayla Ferguson, Brian Ferguson, Emma Zack, and Jake Zack. His memory lives on in his great-grandchildren, Emmaline Holmes and Gabriel Hernandez.
He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Reynolds; brothers, David Ferguson and Joe Ferguson (Michele); and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Flanagan. As well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edie "Sis" Ferguson; his sister, Sandra Figel; his sister-in-law, Maryann Kestner; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Reynolds, Fred Kestner, Ralph Figel, and Daniel McGinnis.
Bob's life was one of service, strength, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of loyalty, humor, and hard work will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16m 2025 at Daniels & Hutchison, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE at 11am. A visitation will be held from 10 -11am.
