Robert Ferrone Obituary

Robert Peter Ferrone
August 5, 1933 - January 8, 2026
Robert Ferrone, a long-time resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 92. Bobby was born in Brooklyn, NY, where he lived with his siblings, June, Tommy, and Annette, and a large contingent of cousins. His family subsequently moved to Westport, CT. He was drafted into the Army when he was 18 and served for two years. After leaving the Army, he was employed at Remington Rand in Norwalk, CT. It was here that he met Ruth Hoffman Ferrone, and they married soon after and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2025. Together they raised four sons: David, Allan, Paul, and Bruce.
He was known for an incredible work ethic during his years at Remington Rand, Abbott Systems, and Airpot Corporation, where nobody can remember him taking a sick day. This work ethic also carried over to the maintenance around his home, where he took great pride in keeping up with the yardwork, gardening, pool maintenance, and using his vast array of tools well into his 80s. Each summer, he supplied the neighbors with the best cherry tomatoes you could imagine.
Bob had the ability to fix or build anything. Whether it was building a deck or repairing anything that was broken, he figured out how to do it. Long before there was Google or YouTube videos, people (usually his sons) would come to him when they didn't know how to take care of something. If he didn't have the right tool to do a job, he often invented his own. When he needed to start putting eye drops in his eyes daily, he bought cheap eyeglasses from the Dollar Store and drilled holes in the middle of them perfectly aligned with his eyeball.
Always very athletic, he coached many of his sons' youth sports teams, including baseball and basketball. Some years his teams won the Championship and other years they came in last place, but his demeanor never changed. Later in life, he played pickleball at the Norwalk Senior Center and he sometimes complained that in many games, nobody hit him the ball because they preferred to target his weaker teammate.
Bob lived a life where he always had three meals a day, with 99% of those meals prepared by Ruth. He always ate in moderation, but if he was with someone that turned down dessert, he often said "You don't want to be the healthiest person in the cemetery."
In addition to his wife, sons, and his sister, Annette, Bob is survived by his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A private service will be held, where his family will honor him with plenty of food and a friendly pickleball tournament.

Yesterday

Dear Ruth, While you and I have been friends since kindergarten, I did not meet Bob until we reconnected at the Norwalk Senior Center. We played pickleball and became good friends. No words are adequate to express my feelings. Bob was such a kind and generous man. He touched so many people in so many ways. Every day in prayer we say "thy will be done," but in reality difficult to accept. Bob was an exceptional gift to mankind! Please accept my prayers and condolences for you, your family, and Bob. Sincerely, Carol

Bob was a great guy. When I was a young engineer starting in 1988, he would often fix my mistakes with his better ideas. He never complained about redoing work, usually saying, "The rate is the same!" Every morning, when asked how he was doing, he would answer with an enthusiastic, "Fantastic!" I learned a lot from watching Bob and have missed seeing him at the company's social events since his retirement. When he first told me he was going to retire, I asked him to please reconsider full retirement and to come in 2 or 3 days a week. When he did eventually fully retire, it was tough as he knew so many things and was so productive. But in the end, he was replaceable (as all of us are), but it was hardest to replace his friendliness and great attitude! My condolences to Ruth and the whole family,

Tom Lee
