Bob died on Wednesday, June 5th, due to complications from cancer surgery the previous day.
He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, attending E. Rivers and Northside High School. In 1963, he graduated
with a degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech University, where he was a member of the
Chi Phi fraternity.
In 1963, he married Linda Lehner, his wife of more than 60 years, and they had two children, Curt and
Mary Margaret. For 44 years, Bob was a manufacturer's representative selling electrical equipment
throughout the Southeast until his retirement. Bob was a reserved man but with a sharp mind and quick
wit. He was a longtime member of the Atlanta Athletic Club and found enjoyment in even the most
uncooperative rounds of golf. He was a constant reader and a regular fixture at the nearest library to
wherever he lived.
He was perhaps his most enthusiastic when he held a deck of cards. He met Linda over a bridge game
in college and she became his favorite partner over the decades. He achieved Gold Life Master in
bridge in 2019.
Bob enjoyed volunteering for the Festival of Trees, the Botanical Gardens Tour, the Olympics, and
other causes spearheaded by Linda, "the Social Chairman." Bob and Linda were lifelong Atlantans, but
in 2016, they moved from their high-energy hometown to the more laid-back climate of Fairhope, Ala.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda, his son Curt (Lane), daughter Mary Margaret (Wayne), and the
three grandchildren that he adored, Annabeth Hopper, Davis Hopper, and Evelyn Holman.
The Funeral Rites and Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at
St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 370 S. Section St., Fairhope, Ala. Donations in lieu of flowers can be
made to the Arthritis Foundation
