Robert Gamlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium - Derry on Jul. 19, 2024.
Robert G. Gamlin, 100, of Londonderry, NH passed away peacefully to join his beloved wife Frances, Thursday July 18, 2024 at his daughter's home in Rochester, NH. Bob was born in Groton, MA on November 21, 1923, a son of the late Edward and Florence (Anderson) Gamlin. He served during WWII with the US Marine Corp.
Bob retired after 42 years with T.C. Edwards & Co., P.C., Public Accounting Firm where he was the Managing Partner. He started right after the Marines and retired in 2008.
His passion was gardening. He is a self-taught botanist and plant collector and was a long-time member of the Rock Garden, Rhododendron, Iris, Fern and Forestry societies. He holds the patent on an iris of European and Siberian specie named the "Gamlin Blue Iris" which was sold throughout the United States and featured in several horticultural magazines.
In the hot summer months, he worked with Fran trimming Christmas trees for the winter sales. Hot and sticky work. In the winter, they sold trees every year to people that came from miles to cut down their own tree at the Gamlin Christmas Tree Farm. He won several ribbons at the Topsfield Fair.
In 2006 Bob donated 127 acres to the Groton Conservation Trust which added to 1,500 acres of protected land. The donated land is legally named the "Gamlin Crystal Spring Conservation area".
He is survived by his two daughters, Dawn Landry and husband Raymond of Rochester, NH, and Robin Gamlin of Raymond, NH, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 76 years, Frances "Fran" (Miller) Gamlin on June 12, 2024, by his two daughters, Susan A. Gamlin in 2013, and Karen J. Gamlin in 2018, his siblings, Edward "Bud" Gamlin, Richard "Dick" Gamlin, Franklin "Sonny" Gamlin, and Thelma Neal.
