Robert J. Gammer, of Colts Neck Township passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife Joni in 62 year of marriage, Curt of Easton PA, Bob and Denise of Manasquan NJ, and blessed with four grandchildren, Marissa, Brinn, Mike, and Curt J. He was predeceased in death by his parents, George J. Gammer and Mary T. Gammer.
He was born at Overlook Hospital, Summit NJ, raised to great parents in Berkely Heights and graduated Jonathon Dayton High School. He graduated first in his class at Bell Laboratories technical school in 1954. He started a 42 career at 17 years of age, was drafted and served in the Army National Guard and promoted to sergeant. He met his wonderful bride Joni on a blind date at the park and soon married. He enjoyed many hours relaxing on the Manasquan Inlet with her and his family and very much enjoyed weekends away with neighborhood friends.
He as a proven and widely renowned avid expert striper fisherman and part time novice golfer. He had a love of all sports with a ball, he was standout softball player in his 30s. He was a 30-year supervisor of the men's basketball program for the Township of Colts Neck Recreation.
He had a passion for woodworking technology and built a TV as well as many furniture large bookcases and cabinets impressing visitors for many years.
Loyal and dedicated to family first, he camped the across country three times in a 1970s station wagon and a pop-up camper trailer. Later he enjoyed trips to Alaska, Hawaii and had made all 50 states on his bucket list.
He experienced many lost moments and had been known to work well with truckers with his CB radio on channel 19.
A true renaissance man, he worked on automobiles in his leisure and was known to drop everything to help neighbors and many others on house projects for hours on end on numerous occasions.
At work in Bell Laboratories in Holmdel NJ he was known for his laughter and had a favorite phrase of, "Make me laugh, make me laugh, Hahaha!". After a lengthy tenure, he was promoted to Member of Technical Staff. He retired in 1996 and had 26 years of retirement spending many hours of enjoyment with his four gems, doting over his loving and adoring grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Atlantic Cemetery, Colts Neck.
