Robert Garrard (Bob), lifelong resident of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully in the care of Affinis Hospice at Oakview Nursing Home, Waverly Hall..
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Bob was born November 18, 1948, the oldest child of the late Leonard Ernest Garrard and the late Martha Josephine Garrard (nee Irwin). He attended St. Elmo Elementary, Columbus High School (class of 1966), and Georgia Tech (class of 1970), where he gained a BS inIndustrial Management, the only time he lived away from home.This is where he met his former wife, Annie, who was at a nearby nursing school, and they developed firm friendships.Bob and the family moved back to Columbus when their eldest daughter, Suzie, was a year old.
Bob grew up as a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church and attended when his hobbies, which included duck, dove, and deer hunting or watching college football (his allegiances have changed a few times over the years) allowed.His hunting buddies were lifelong friends, though many have now gone on before him.Bob worked at the Government Centre and Lower Chattahoochee RDC. Later, hemoved to his parent’s home while doing consultant work when his health allowed.Bob also enjoyed going to concerts and spending time with his grandchildren.He was strongly supported by a number of friends he made over the years, for whom he and the family were very grateful.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leonard and Martie.He is survived by three children (all Columbus High graduates) and nine grandchildren: daughter Suzie Garrard Fletcher (Greg), Imogen, Callum, Euan, and Lorna, from near Dunbar, Scotland; son Paul Garrard, and his children, Madeline and Jackson, and their mother Erin, Midland/Columbus, GA and daughter Ginny Garrard Ingels (Justin), Dretavious, Arabel, and Isla, Athens, GA and his two sisters, Diane Garrard Blackwell, of Columbus, and Suzanne Garrard Noonan, of Lexington, VA and their families.
