Augusta, Ga – Laverne Powell Garrard, 88, wife of the late Jack E. Garrard, went to be with her Lord and Savior December 2, 2025 surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with Cancer.
Laverne was born July 30, 1937 in Collins, Ga to the late Estus Powell & Clyde Slater Powell. After graduating from Collins High School in 1955, she attended Drones Business College in Savannah, Ga. and later became the Research Assistant in the Office of Institutional Research at Augusta College for 33 years before her retirement.
Rooted Deeply in her Faith, Laverne was an active member at Trinity on the Hill GMC and enjoyed the friendships that grew from the Adult Couples and Singles Sunday School class. She was a devoted servant of the Lord, previously serving on the St John’s Kitchen Committee and Clothes Closet. An avid Golf fan, Laverne looked forward to April in Augusta every year and was a gifted seamstress often spending her spare time quilting or sewing for others.
Above all, Laverne lived a life marked by grace, devotion, and quiet strength even in her final days. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, and Aunt whose gentle spirit, generosity and steadfast love blessed all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Connie Powell, niece K.D. Powell, great niece Ashby Symms and great nephew Dalton Stanford.
Laverne is survived by her two brothers, Kenneth Powell and Lamar Powell (Martha), Nieces Lisa Stanford (Shawn) and Tracy Yahn (Robert), Nephew Michael Powell (Coleen) along with numerous great Nieces and Nephews that she loved as her very own.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the Kennedy Funeral Home Cobbtown Chapel with Reverand Roy McVeigh officiating in Cobbtown, Ga. Interment will follow at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church 1199 Cedar Creek Church Rd, Collins, Ga 30421
