Age 79, passed away on Thursday January 22, 2026.
Bob is survived by his partner Cindy Macey, loving daughter Jeanne (Dave) Paul, Cindy's children: Tommy Macey, Tony (Ana) Macey, George (Shell) Macey, adoring grandchildren: Rebecca Paul, Hannah Paul, Adam (Jordan Pollard) Paul, Elle Macey, Hayden Macey, Max Macey, Stella Macey, Margo Macey, Charlie Macey, Sloane Macey, sister-in-law Pat Gianone, nieces and nephews: Jeffery Gianone, Debbie Gianone, Erin Nolan, Jenny (Brett) Twitty, Brian Gianone, his faithful dog Ozzie
Bob is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Florence Gianone, son Bobby Gianone, brothers Jim (Arlene) Gianone, Don Gianone, nephew Donald Gianone.
Bob was born in Chicago and grew up an accomplished athlete, earning varsity letters in football, baseball, and basketball all four years at his alma matter, Little Flower High School. His love of sports stayed with him throughout his life, as he continued to play basketball and softball well into his 50's.
Bob had a remarkable memory, especially when it came to sports. He appeared on sports radio shows and trivia contests, astonishing everyone with his ability to recall NBA players from any era and the colleges they attended. It was a true gift.
His very first and favorite job was being a paperboy-- especially on Sunday's, when he proudly delivered the Sunday paper. After graduating from Roosevelt University, Bob became a floor broker for IBM and was a founding member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange when it opened in 1975. He was also a member of the New York Stock Exchange.
Bob loved people and spent his life forming deep, lasting friendships wherever he went. There was hardly a place he could travel without running into someone he knew. He was fiercely loyal and would do anything to help others, a fact reflected in the tremendous outpouring of love for him.
Family meant everything to Bob. He was an incredible father to Jeanne and Bobby (1976-1997) and loved his partner, Cindy, whom he met in 2000. As a grandfather, he couldn't have been prouder of his grandchildren and took every opportunity to brag about them.
In January 2024, Bob was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre` syndrome and later with stage four esophageal cancer. Through every challenge, his determination and strength never wavered. Even as his body weakened in late 2025, his spirit, resilience, and humor remained strong.
Bob was known for his incredible sense of humor and larger-than-life personality. He could make a good time anywhere and was often invited to emcee events because of his wit, warmth, and kindness. A gentle giant, Bob leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, generosity, laughter, and love. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday February 7, 2026, 10:00 am at St Mary's Catholic Church in Mokena. A private Celebration of Life to follow immediately after mass.
