Robert "Bob" Pasquale Gianuario was born on November 7, 1934, to parents Pasquale "Pat"
Angelovito Gianuario (barber, musician) and Rose Marie Deluca (homemaker) in San Francisco,
California and passed away December 29, 2024, in Redwood City, California at the age of 90
years. Bob possessed a warm, outgoing personality, sharing his smile and good will with
everyone he met. Bob was quick to laugh, had a keen intellect, and a wonderful fun-loving
sense of humor. He treated everyone as family and there was nothing more important to him
than that. Bob was a natural conversationalist, showing a genuine curiosity and interest in all
people. Bob was the heart and soul of his family and he will be deeply missed by all who knew
and loved him.
Bob's grandparents immigrated from Italy to New York, eventually settling in San Francisco. To
improve his health due to asthma, Bob's parents built a home in Redwood City, California and
relocated there when he was 7 years old. Bob attended and graduated from Mt. Carmel Catholic
Grade School, and Bellarmine College Preparatory High School. After high school, Bob enlisted
in the National Guard and was able to attend and graduate from the College of San Mateo at
the same time. While at college, Bob joined the Drama Club, participating in several plays,
including his favorite, "Arsenic and Old Lace". Bob also developed an interest in speech and
debate, earning a certificate from the Simmons Institute of Human Relations. Bob briefly
attended Santa Clara University, intending to become a Pharmacist, before leaving to earn
money to support his new family.
During his career, Bob decided to use his people skills in the liquor industry, working as a
bartender and store clerk before eventually purchasing Aragon Liquors, located at 1220 El
Camino Real, San Mateo, California. Because Bob worked long hours at the liquor store, he
often brought his children and their friends with him on Saturdays. It was during these work
days that they learned the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of customer service.
Bob owned Aragon Liquors for many years but decided to sell it due to changes in the state's fair
trade laws. He then transitioned into the wine distribution business, founding the company
"Winocerous."
Throughout their lives, Bob and his wife Carole relied on their personalities, financial expertise,
and sales skills to manage and support their family's businesses and real estate ventures. Bob, a
self-taught handyman, took pride in ensuring that all of their properties were well-maintained.
Some of Bob's favorite hobbies were entertaining and cooking. He was a talented self-taught
chef who prepared full meals every Sunday for his family and friends, often serving 16 or more
people. Bob enjoyed spending his free time each week selecting recipes, adjusting them to suit
his tastes, shopping for the perfect ingredients, and creating culinary masterpieces with his wife
Carole. They made sure to send any leftovers home with family. Bob followed the SF Forty-
Niners and was an avid gardener his entire life, growing and nurturing plants, landscapes, herbs,
fruits, and vegetables of all types. Bob especially loved cars from the 1920-40's, attending many
car shows with his family. Carole and Bob also traveled internationally and across America in
their 5th wheel trailer.
Bob married Carole Jean Rossi on April 12, 1958. Carole worked as a bookkeeper and in retail
sales, and she was also Bob's partner in all aspects of their life throughout their 66 years of
marriage. Bob and Carole had four children. Carole predeceased Bob, leaving behind Catherine
(Gianuario) McCoy (Karstyn), Robert "Bob" Mark Gianuario (Karen), Cheryl (aka Gia) Gianuario,
and Richard Gianuario (Chris), and 9 grandchildren, Elijha Gianuario (Cheryl/Gia), Ryan McCoy
(Catherine), Richard and Rachel Gianuario (Robert), Nicholas, Nathan and Nathalia Gianuario
(Richard), as well as Sarah and Aaron Stanley (children of Eric and Samira Stanley - close family
friends). Bob is survived by his cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Carole Jean (Rossi) Gianuario, his parents Pasquale "Pat" Angelovito Gianuario and Rose Marie
Deluca, and his two sisters, Gloria and Mamie Gianuario.
Special thanks to Regina and caregivers Rommel, Dennis, Louie, Julius, Vincent, and Raul, of
Mom and Dad's Home Care who assisted the Gianuario family to loving and thoughtfully care
for Bob and Carole over the last 6 years as their heath diminished.
Visitation will be held between 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18th, at St. Charles
