Robert Orlan Givens III

Robert Orlan Givens III, age 49, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away at Sentara Norfolk General Heart Hospital on Sunday, December 21, 2025. He was born on November 11, 1976, in Elizabeth City, NC, to Carol Jean Midyette Givens and the late Robert Orlan Givens, Jr.
Orlan attended Pitt Community College, where he studied graphic art. Following college, he returned home to begin his career in the family business, R. O. Givens Signs Inc., where he worked as a graphic designer for the remainder of his life.
Orlan had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was an avid bear hunter and took great pleasure in time spent in nature. He loved his family and friends deeply and created many lasting memories that he cherished. Despite life's hardships, Orlan lived life to the fullest and embraced each day with purpose.
In addition to his mother, Orlan is survived by his son, Davis Orlan Givens and wife, Gracie; his daughter, Abigail Grace Givens; and his fiancée, Tammy. He will also be dearly missed by his aunts, Bobbie Givens Moore, Lois Givens Brown (Allen), Gail Adams Sexton, Vicki Adams Probes, and Bessie Midyette Hearn; uncles, Scott Givens, Tommy Copeland, and John Midyette; his fiancée's children, Anthony Lane, Carson Trueblood, Peyton Trueblood, and Brennan Trueblood, whom he loved as his own; his best friend, Allen "Apuff" Berry; and many loving cousins and friends. In addition to his father, Orlan was preceded in death by his sister, Millicent Louise Givens, and his aunt, Mary Givens Lane.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Towne South Church of Christ, 2224 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, with Pastor Jon Nettesheim officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church and at other times at the residence, 1165 Parsonage Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. A private family burial will take place at New Hollywood Cemetery.
