Robert Gonzales Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neil O'Donnell Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
Robert Lee Gonzales 77, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Robert was born on June 6th, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Catalina (Katie), and Felipe (Philip) Gonzales.

He grew up in a very close family with many siblings around his same age who attended the same schools.

He graduated in 1967 from West High School, where he attended and was a decorated wrestler.

He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and retired as a Material Foreman in 1999. He was a hard-working man and always did what he could to provide for everyone.

He coached baseball for many years and passed that skill onto his sons.

He lived his life with a full heart, and his greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren grow. He loved proudly and without end and his legacy is love-the kind that never fades.

He attended Zumba classes, and he spent nearly 25 years doing Zumba after he retired. He spent so much time with his Zumba friends. They were more like a second family.

He loved cooking his favorite Mexican foods, pinto beans, fideo, and tortillas. He loved listening to music, especially the Beach Boys, Michael Jackson, and Elvis. He even dressed up as Michael and Elvis for Halloween with his Zumba class. He loved to dance.

He bowled in many leagues and he loved sports. He enjoyed watching all of them, even wrestling and bowling. He enjoyed going to see his grandkids playing sports. He especially loved the Utah Jazz, Utah Utes, and the Red Sox, but his most favorite, was the Dallas Cowboys. He will forever be their number one fan!

He would decorate his apartment for each holiday and was so proud! He had even put up his Christmas tree with family and decorated for Christmas the day he passed .

He loved being with his family as much as he could.

Thank you to Denny and Trina and Annicka and Scott for taking care of, and helping with health issues, medications, doctor appointments and just being there for him.

Words cannot express the gratitude we have for Matt, who took care of him day to day during the last part of his life, took him for walks every day, and focused on helping him be happy and healthy and made many memories that will last a lifetime.

He is survived by both ex-wives Dolores and Jill, his children, Lanette (Steve) Martinez, Bobby (Shyann), Lori (Kelly) Mounteer, Denny (Trina), Jordan, Michael, Matthew, Justin (Athelia), Annicka (Scott) Barker, and Alissa (Austin), 27 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his brothers and sisters Joseph, Sr. (Charise), Betty Manning, Philip, Jr. (Nora), and Kathy (Ed) Riding.

He is preceded in death by both parents, his brothers, James, and John, sister, Rose, and his beautiful granddaughter Emileen.

You are missed and will be remembered always!
