Robert Gossage-"R.T." to friends," "Pop" to his family-was a loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Shelia Hedden Gossage; his mother and father, Viola and Carl Gossage; sister, Dorothy Gossage Kelly, and brother-in-law, Hershel Kelly; brother, Joe Gossage, and sister-in-law, Gladys Gossage; brother-in-law, Frank Hedden, and sister-in-law, Billy Hedden Allen.
R.T. leaves behind his daughter, Sonya Gossage Gazaway, and his son-in-law, Kenneth Gazaway. He also leaves behind his grandson, Ken Gazaway, and his wife, Susanne Gazaway; granddaughter, Amber Gazaway Coffey; great-grandson, Lane Coffey; sister-in-law, Linda Hedden; along with his nephews and nieces.
R.T. graduated from Dalton High School and married his high school sweetheart. He worked in the grocery store business all his life and became a friend to many people in the Dalton community. He worked at Big Apple, Stafford's, Town & Country, Beaverdale Superette, and The Green Spot.
R.T. was a long-time and loyal Atlanta and Rome Braves fan. He always said that Bobby Cox needed for him to come down to Atlanta to help him manage the Braves. He has always had a great sense of humor.
Family, friends, and even brief acquaintances who had the pleasure of knowing R.T. Gossage, all knew that he had a wonderful outlook on life and always had a smile or kind word for everyone. May you rest in peace, Pop. We love you and miss you!
Funeral services for Robert Gossage will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Willis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at United Memorial Gardens.
