Robert Guba Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Acton Funeral Home on Feb. 24, 2026.
Robert F. Guba, 98; was an avid hiker, canoeist, and a volunteer in the community

Robert F. Guba, of Groton, MA and formerly a longtime resident of Acton for 65 years, died Monday, February 23, 2026 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Mr. Guba was a Senior Development Engineer at Raytheon for 35 years, helping in the design of radar systems.

Bob Guba was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and a lifelong amateur radio operator where he spent many years communicating with other ham operators. He loved being outdoors and climbed all the peaks over 4,000 feet in New England and New York, also completing the Winter NH 48. In his later years he made many friends in his hiking groups, Monday Meanderers and Wednesday Wanderers, where he also was a skilled GPS trail tracker enthusiast, that mapped out their weekly club hikes.

He believed and got much satisfaction in giving back to the local community and had endless energy doing trail work in the Acton area since 1990. Bob was a charter member of the Acton Land Stewardship committee from the beginning in 1995 to 2018, where he was recognized with a lifetime achievement award at the age of 90. Bob had meticulous standards when working on the trails building boardwalks, bridges and clearing or repairing countless trails.

During his time in Acton, he was a radio officer and Deputy Director of Civil Defense, a member of the Acton Congregational Church, on their Board of Trustees for several years and Church Canvas Committee for 20 years. Bob also was a Scoutmaster for Acton's Troop 11 for twelve years, leading many camping & hiking trips while sharing his love for the outdoors with his family. In retirement he helped several scouts achieve their eagle badge by helping with their projects; cutting & blazing a new trail, building a new conservation trail kiosk or a new bridge/boardwalk in Acton.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Ann of 58 years, his son Steven and his sister Anne. He is survived by his son David and wife Marlene, daughter Karen and husband Dave, son Robert and wife Doreen and daughter in law Dede. Grandfather of Ben, Matt, Lauren, Jonathan, Eric and Curtis. He was very proud to tell his friends that his family had grown to six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
