Robert L. "Rufus" Hallsted

Robert "Rufus" Hallsted, 78 of Athens, passed away peacefully on Monday November 25, 2024.
Rufus was born in Catskill on January 10,1946 to the late Rufus Hallsted and Frances (Van Valkenburgh) Hallsted. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Arlene Hallsted who passed away in 2021.
Rufus was a dedicated Corrections Officer for many years for New York State serving at the Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie. Many of his friends would also remember him from his many years at Blue Circle/Atlantic Cement in Ravena.
Rufus was an avid cyclist and enjoyed his daily exercise. When he was young, he spent time in California where he had lots of stories of his time spent scuba diving. But first and foremost, he truly enjoyed catching up with his friends and sharing countless stories over coffee.
He is survived by his loving children Robert Hallsted Jr., Caroline Holm, Joyce Moore, Douglas Griffin, Ina Griffin-Guilzon and husband David Guilzon, his cherished 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends as well as his loving sister Beverly Rose and her two children Jeffrey Rose and Lisa Govel.
He is also predeceased by his beloved daughter Stephanie Griffin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at the W.C. Brady Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie on Friday December 6, 2024, from 4-6 p.m., with a celebration of his life being held at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m.
