Mr. Robert Sherman Handy, 89, of Gibsonville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at AuthoraCare Hospice Home.
Bob was born December 28, 1933 in Alamance County to Robert Edgar and Stella Handy. He worked for 25 years at Cone Mill – Minneola and began working in the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Burlington at Joe Davidson Park after retiring, serving there for over 20 years. He was a member of McLeansville Baptist Church and in his free time, loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Sue Handy, and his brother, Donald Handy.
Bob is survived by his wife, Clara Andrews Handy; sons, Anthony “Tony” Handy and wife Susan and Ricky Brown; daughter, Tasha Kastner and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jamie Stollings, Joshua Handy, Noah Kastner, Nick Kastner, and Ben Kastner; great grandson, Tyson Stollings; sisters, Betty Tharpe and Janice Handy; and several nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Barnette officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 – 10:45 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Brightwood Christian Church Cemetery.
