Obituary
Robert Lee Haneline, Sr. was "promoted to glory" on Saturday, April 1, 2023. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Maida (Howard) Haneline, and their six children; sons Robert, Jr. & Victoria Haneline, Glen & Frances Haneline, Adam & Cathy Haneline; daughters Lisa Hankamer, Jennifer Pou & Lucas Pou; son Todd & Marion Haneline; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by their daughter, Wendy Lynn Haneline, his parents, Cyrus L. Haneline and Hala Mae (Eden) Atkinson, brothers Carroll Haneline and Jack Haneline, sisters Karon Sorenson and Rebecca "Becky" Stone-Moore.
Robert was born in Hugo, OK, lived in Paris, TX and moved to Houston, TX with his family when he was a teenager. He graduated from Smiley High School in 1957. Shortly thereafter he met Maida, at the local roller rink, and had a whirlwind love affair that brought them together in marriage the following April. Their family grew rapidly, and he soon discovered that his carpenter work alone would not be enough to care for them. He joined the Houston Fire Department in 1960, serving 30 years in the department until he retired in 1990. He moved his family from Houston to Alvin, TX in 1977 and was a resident of Alvin upon his passing. He was a member of the Bayou Drive Baptist Church in Alvin. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, car enthusiast and classic films lover. He is loved deeply and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations in his name to Bayou Drive Baptist Church Missions Fund or Firefighters Helping Firefighters.

Robert married my sister when I was eight years old. I quickly came to love him dearly, and to go to him for advice, protection, and multiple other roles that he played in my life. We shared a love of silliness, and good times, as well as classic movies. And because of that love of old movies, as well as his role as a surrogate father to me as I grew up, I called him Big Daddy, a reference to an old Paul Newman movie.
When I was about eleven or twelve years old, he acquired a new truck. One he was extremely proud of. But it was an unfortunate shade of orangey brown, similar to the color of pumkin pie. He kept it spotless and gleaming, at all times. One day in particular, Maida and the kids were visiting us, and when Robert got off work at the fire station, he came to my mom's house, to join us for dinner.
It was springtime, and all the windows in the house were open. So, in a loud voice, I called out "Sissy! I think Prince Charming has arrived. I see a rotten pumpkin in the driveway!"
Robert started running, and I looked for a place to hide, because I knew that retribution was at hand! He tickled me, until I could hardly breathe.

It was my privilege to pastor Robert when he made a miraculous return to the Lord. He returned to Christ with great humility and enthusiasm after family and church prayed for him over the years. His encouragement and service to me personally was a great impact. He life is a reminder that it´s more important how you finish than how you start.
