Robert Bert Hansen, a longtime member of the McHenry community and a pillar of warmth and dedication, passed away on September 12, 2025, in Barrington, Illinois. Born on January 26, 1939, in Fox Lake, IL, Robert's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, an enduring love for the outdoors, and a passion for serving others.
Robert's life was a testament to the values of honesty, hard work, and family pride. His presence was a comforting constant in the lives of his loved ones, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Peggy (Wayne) Blake, Greg (Sue) Hansen, Jeff (Tracy) Hansen, and Sue (Brian) Wimmer. His legacy will live on through his beloved grandchildren, Troy (Corrin) Blake, Brent (Andrea) Blake, Cody (Alyssa) Blake, Casey Paramski, Ashley (Rick) Freeman, Megan (Jim) Korch, Taylor Smith, Rachel (Vince) Rios, Nick Hansen, and Charlie Hansen, Matt Lukes, Chris Lukes, and Noah Wimmer, as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Hunter, Madelyn, Walker, Maella, Izaiah, Landon, Nora, Brady, Nolan, and Macy Mae.
Before his passing, Robert was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Connie, his parents, Hans and Marie Hansen, and his siblings. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he instilled in them the virtues of love, kindness, and passion, which he embodied every day.
In his professional life, Robert spent 36 years at Northern Illinois Gas Company starting as a pipe fitter and rising to Quality Control later in his career. He also dedicated 25 years to serving as a volunteer firefighter for the city of McHenry. His bravery and commitment to his community earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and neighbors. Robert's service also included six years in the United States Army Reserves starting in 1957.
Robert's interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. He was an avid fisherman, often found casting a line on the Mississippi River, and a boating enthusiast, taking to the Chain of Lakes with a spirit of adventure. Hunting was another of his outdoor pursuits, providing him with the opportunity to immerse himself in nature. However, it was woodworking that captured Robert's heart the most. His passion for crafting and creating beautiful pieces was more than a hobby; it was an art form that he approached with the same love and care he showed to his family.
Those who knew Robert would describe him as loving, kind, and passionate. He approached life with a gentle strength and a quiet confidence that inspired those around him. His love for his family was his guiding light, and the memories they created together will be cherished forever.
Robert's life was centered around love, service, and dedication. We take comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family and in the community that he so selflessly served. He will be dearly missed, but the impact of his life will be felt for generations to come.
