Bob was born on March 5, 1945, to Raymond and Rosalie Harouff in Franklin County, Nebraska. He graduated from Alma High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army for three years after graduation and was deployed to Vietnam. He was first married to Linda Goosic, with whom he had two children, Angela and Christopher. In 1970, he married Glenda Nickel, his wife of 55 years, and together they had one daughter, Katheryn. Bob retired from Eaton Corporation in 2006.
Bob loved gardening and tinkering in the garage. He was always working on a project: making trailers from any type of vehicle, refurbishing lawnmowers, golf carts, go carts, etc., and was brilliant at keeping any piece of equipment running in perpetuity. Often, he would modify a piece of yard equipment so that he was the only one who could make it run. Each one had a trick to it, but none had the same trick. (Whether that was intentional or not is up for debate). Bob could mount a lawnmower engine on anything and make it into a motor vehicle of some kind. He was also a skilled welder and could repair or fabricate almost anything.
Bob always loved horses and was a natural at horse training. He spent many years training not only his own horses but also provided this service for others. His daughter Katheryn, who began helping him at a very young age, only discovered on her 40th birthday that he had been compensated for his services. He thought it was hilarious that she never knew.
Bob and Glenda spent countless hours fishing at Harlan Reservoir near Alma, NE. For years they would take the camper and boat every day after work, and nearly every weekend, often staying at Methodist Cove, which was their favorite campground at Harlan.
Bob is survived by his wife, Glenda; brother, Curt; sisters, Marie, Ellen, and Dorothy; his three children, ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rosalie, and his brother Norman. To leave a tribute or message of condolence:
