Robert T. "Bob" Harris

Robert "Bob" T. Harris, age 86, of Sun City Center, Florida, and Selden, New York, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2025.

Born in the Bronx, NY, on September 6, 1938, Bob lived a life of integrity, service, and quiet strength. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School, he continued his education at Suffolk Community College, earning two degrees that would help shape a distinguished career in public service.

Bob proudly served his country as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Marine Corps before dedicating over four decades to the Federal Aviation Administration.

His deep commitment to the aviation community led him to organize Controllers United, a pivotal advocacy group through which he championed the rights of his fellow controllers and played an instrumental role in securing the return of many to their posts during challenging times.

Beyond his professional life, Bob had a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, playing racquetball, and riding his bike-pursuits that reflected his active spirit and zest for life.

Bob was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Marie Harris; his daughters Dina Marie Harris and Robin Bibars; his son Robert T. Harris II; son-in-law Amr Bibars; and his beloved grandson, Nikko Bibars. He is also survived by his cherished siblings, Essie Edel and Dr. Kenneth Harris.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Marie Harris, whose memory he held close to his heart.

His legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A private ceremony will be held to honor his life.
