Dear Haskin Family,
My name is Rita McMillian. I am the second daughter of LT CMD Afred Noel McMillian. My father was known as "Mac" by his naval freinds. My mother Helen McMilian and my father were friends of Mr.Haskin when the fellows were both young aviators. My father was lost at sea in the Pacific on August 1, 1958.
Before his death, my father "mac" and your dad, his friend "Bob" had bought some land together near Norfolk Lake in Mountain Home, Arkansas. It was going to be the site of our forever family home. My father was planning on retiring from the military within the year before he lost his life.
My mother always spoke so highly of Bob and how much my father enjoyed his friendship with him.
In going through some old family archives today, I came upon some letters that my mother had saved in which Bob and my father shared some of their dreams for life after leaving the service and what they might do with the land at Mountain Home. I know my father, country boy at heart, was looking forward to some serious fishing!
It must have been Bob who introduced my father to Moutain Home. My father really fell in love with the area. I can see why.
I know that Mr.Haskin was very kind to my mother after my father passed. He made sure that she received my father's investment. This money investment helped my mother to literally keep a roof over our young heads. She always spoke of Mr. Haskin as being a good and honorable man. My mother passed in 2008. She never forgot her navy friends.
I am sorry that I never had a chance to thank Mr.Haskin myself. Please know that Helen and Mac's children are very grateful for your father's kindness to us. You are in our prayers.
Take precious care,
Rita McMillian

Dear Lois, Jay and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family. We are so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I was so fortunate to be home a few weeks ago when Bob came over to our house. We have been so blessed to have you and Bob as our wonderful neighbors. We will cherish the memories of Bob and Jay sitting on their tractors taking a break from mowing and also when Bob would bring us his homemade jellies. He was a very kind and generous man. The "hill" will not be the same.

There are many that came through Western Electric in Cockeysville that were lucky enough to have Bob as a supervisor and mentor. He was a good friend to whom I owed much. I offer my condolences to the family.
