Robert Lewis Hatcher, 87, of Albuquerque NM, passed away Monday, February 9th, 2026 at his home. Robert was born on November 26, 1938, to John and Gertrude Hatcher in Detroit, Michigan.

He served in the US Army and afterwards graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in education. Robert retired from Sandia National Labs after 34 years of service.

Robert was especially active at his parish, The Cathedral of St. John, where he sang in the choir for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and drawing, once even gifting a carved creche to St. John's and gifting many of his other carvings to friends and family.

Robert is survived by his loving children, Robert (Kathi) Hatcher of Albuquerque and Peggy (Kevin) Sockwell of Leighton, Alabama; grandchildren, Jacob Hatcher and Abbie Hatcher of Albuquerque and James Chaney, Taya Beth Sockwell, and Brody Sockwell also of Alabama. He also had three great-grandchildren, Westly and Aiden Chaney and Eli Sockwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce-Hatcher; parents, John and Gertrude Hatcher; brothers, Jim and John Hatcher; and sisters, Marge and Beth Hatcher.

Bob was loved dearly and will be sorely missed by his entire family, and many others including neighbors, dog walkers and friends near and far.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, 10:00 a.m., at The Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver Ave. SW.
