Robert F. "Nick" Hathaway

Robert F. Hathaway of Hathaway Point, St. Albans, Vermont passed away Monday, March 17th, 2025, at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
He was born in Montpelier on March 2, 1945, to parents Robert M Hathaway and Helen I Bell, and was welcomed by his two sisters Mary and Jane who affectionately called him "Nick".
They lived in Burlington until 1955 when they moved to the family farm on St Albans Point and raised dairy cows for years. The Hathaway farm was in the family four generations earlier, before Vermont was a state, and was actively farmed since 1838.
He was a lifeguard, a deputy, and a Vt State Trooper. He served in the Navy aboard a submarine and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy and attended prep school. He worked for two decades as an electrical-mechanical engineer for General Electric. Personal work he did was under the banner "Hathaway Pt Repair - Ingenuity, innovation, integrity". He knew about electricity, mechanics, physics, plumbing, and much more.
He was married in 1967 to Martha A Easton of Seattle Washington where they resided and had their first two children Robert K in 1968 and Lisa T in 1970. Two years later they moved to Bobwhite Circle on Hathaway Point and in 1975 had their third child Paul G.
Nick had many interests over the years and enjoyed fishing, walking in the fields, and reading everything under the sun. He could always be counted on by his family, neighbors, and community. Recently when asked what he was most proud of that day he said, "The quality of the work I did for people vs the amount I charged them".
He will be deeply missed by many who respected and love him. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Martha, their children and spouses Robert Keith and Genevieve Hathaway, Paul G and Marilou Hathaway, Lisa T Pino, and grandchildren Kaylan, Jarrit, and Nick Austin.
There will be no public services.
