Robert M. Hattenhauer

Robert M. Hattenhauer, age 74, of Des Plaines, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, with his loving children by his side. He was born on August 2, 1951, in Evanston, to the late Dr. Robert V. and Lois (nee Lester) Hattenhauer.

Better known as Bob, he spent almost his entire life as a resident of Des Plaines, choosing to raise his family in his hometown with his wife, Kathleen "Katie" (nee Redmond). He was a graduate of St. Emily School and St. Viator High School and attended Coe College.

Bob was an amazing dad and devoted grandpa. His greatest happiness came from time spent with his family. Bob was a classic car enthusiast, with a passion for Corvettes. He also enjoyed photography, grilling, road trips and dogs. He spent many years volunteering with Des Plaines Baseball and as a Cub Scout den leader and packmaster.

Bob is survived by his children, Allison (Rich) Kelly and Bob (Diane) Hattenhauer; grandchildren, Logan, Bradley, Jacob, Reed, Noah, Amelia, Madelyn and Emily; sister, Mary (Galen) Crull; brother, Dr. Mark Hattenhauer; sisters-in-law, Maureen (Bob) Epperly and Mary Lu Redmond; several nephews, many cousins and lifelong friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 45 years; and his parents.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 22, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Avenue, Des Plaines, IL.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, visitation from 10:00 am until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 am at St. Emily Catholic Church, 1400 E. Central Road, Mount Prospect, IL. A joint interment for Bob and Katie will follow the mass at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Des Plaines.
