Robert Dean Haubrich was born to John and Glenna Haubrich on February 16, 1931 in Yakima WA. Dean graduated from Yakima High School in 1951 and furthered his education at Yakima Junior College, where he was a gifted athlete in football and track. He then went on to continue his education at Central Washington University.
Dean was a Sergeant in the 49th Fighter-Bomber Wing, Fifth Air Force, AKA the "Forty-Niners". His unit was one of the most decorated Air Force units in the war, having earned two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit citations and another eight battle honors. He was deployed to Taegu, South Korea in April 1952 and returned home in March 1953 after an honorable discharge. Dean married the love of his life, Ardith, in 1956. Together they raised four children: 3 sons and 1 daughter. They were married nearly 62 years.
Employed for 35 years as a bank executive, Dean retired as an Assistant Vice President & manager from the First National Bank of Enumclaw. During those years he was a member of the Washington Bankers Association, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, W.R. Boosters Club, Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Buckley Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Buckley. He was also a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Continuing his lifelong passion for sports, Dean delighted in coaching his kids in Little League soccer and baseball. Throughout his life, Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching his children & grandchildren play sports and perform at their school concerts.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife Ardith (Shaw) Haubrich and his sister Jeanine Carlevato. He is survived by sons Stuart, Jeff and Scott, daughter Kristin, brother Richard "Dick" Haubrich, sister Debbi Weishaar, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, August 9th at 12:30pm. All hoping to attend are welcome. Please sign the online guestbook at www.weeksfuneralhomes.com.
