Robert James Hauk

1927 - 2026

Robert James Hauk, passed away peacefully after celebrating his 99th birthday.

Born on Jan. 26, 1927, in Newton, Illinois, Bob grew up surrounded by family, including his three sisters and his brother Dan, who survives him. He was the beloved son of James and Margaret Hauk.

In 1949, Bob married the love of his life, Rosemary, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned decades. Together, they raised eight children: John (Maria), William (Sheila), Robert (Janet), Richard (Diane), David (Joyce), Cathy (Phil), Laura (Steve), and Jeff (Karen). Bob was a proud and loving grandfather to 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren - a legacy that reflects a life rich in family, love, and faith.

Bob honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, including a remarkable and historic experience walking the streets of Nagasaki following the atomic bombing - a moment that left a lasting impression on his life and the stories he shared.

During his years living in Warsaw, Bob dedicated himself to serving his community as a volunteer fire chief and EMT, always ready to help others in times of need. Outside of service, he found joy in woodworking and painting, creating with his hands and taking pride in craftsmanship. He also was a lifelong St Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching the games.

Known affectionately as a gifted storyteller, Bob never met a stranger and could captivate anyone with his conversation, humor, and memories. Often, he would jump in his truck with a camera and drive throughout the Tri-State area looking for a photo or conversation. His warmth, dedication to family, and love for community will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with private family burial to follow to follow in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, with military rites accorded by the U.S. Navy and Hancock County Honor Guards.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends and loved ones to honor his memory by sharing a story - just as he would have loved.

A memorial in his name to the Warsaw Fire Department or Warsaw cemeteries would be appreciated.
