Robert "Bob" John Hill, Jr., age 58, of Harmony, was called home peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at UPMC Passavant while under the compassionate care of the Hillman Cancer Center. He was embraced voraciously by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Born on November 24, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Bob was the son of Mary Elaine (Smith) Hill and the late Robert John Hill, Sr of Manor. He was the loving brother to his two sisters: Kelly (Rob) Caruso and Amy Hill-Persia, both of Trafford.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, which he joined at the age of seventeen, Bob served with honor as a Tomahawk Weapons System Technician during the Gulf War. A winter ski trip to Seven Springs during his service is where he would meet the love of his life, Andrea "Andi" (Marttala) Hill, who soon became his devoted wife of 34 years. During the remaining years of service, Andi would travel to visit him at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, which has remained a vacation tradition for Bob's family. Following his military service, he forged a successful career as project manager at BNY Mellon. However, his most treasured role outside the home was serving on the Seneca Valley School Board for sixteen years, five years as president and three as vice president.
In 2012 before his son's high school graduation, Bob was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer-a challenge he met with courage, grit, and a steadfast refusal to let define him. A true warrior, he beat the odds for over thirteen years, effortlessly enduring countless treatments. His super-power was concealing his pain with a permanent beautiful smile. He was thankful for his incredible care team at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center under the guidance of Dr. Leonard Appleman. His world revolved around his children, frequently reminding anyone that his proudest accomplishment was witnessing their high school, college, medical school graduations, weddings and now the arrival of five beloved grandchildren.
Bob was a man of unwavering devotion to his family, known for his larger-than-life personality and radiant spirit. An avid marksman and outdoorsman, he found deep joy in hunting, fishing, and simply being outside with those he loved. His son often recalls some of their most unforgettable memories together-long drives on I-80 to the family property in Jefferson County during deer season. A professional "tinkerer" at heart, Bob could always be found working with his hands-on machines, vehicles, or fixing things around the house-rarely sitting still. His daughter adored him so much, she made her home just 2.1 miles up the road, cherishing his role as her personal handyman, always ready to lend a hand to spare her the need for hired outside help. A true pizza connoisseur, Bob made Friday nights special with his homemade dough-now a cherished family tradition his grandchildren eagerly carry on. At Christmastime, he transformed the season into a magical celebration with the grandest model train displays, complete with conductor hats for the little ones. Everything Bob touched-whether a project, a pizza, or a holiday-became the biggest, boldest, and best version it could possibly be.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to those aforementioned, Bob is survived by his two children, Dr. Kylan (Rachel) Hill of Cincinnati, and Dr. Alissa (Daniel) Hayden of Harmony; his five cherished grandchildren, Kylan Robert Hill II, Harper Patrice Hill, Henry Joseph Hill, Lila Andrea Hill, and Hadley Irene Hayden; and his loving nieces and nephews, Natalie (Tom) Rhine, Robbie Caruso, Angela Persia, and his Godson, Frankie Persia.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM at Boylan Funeral Homes, Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave.,
Zelienople, PA 16063.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with Pastor Dean Adams officiating. Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at the church.
Bob will be laid to rest with full military honors at Camp Run Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fombell.
