Robert Hires Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
Mr. Robert Edwin Hires, affectionately known as Eddie to his friends and family, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Sunday morning on January 18, 2026 at his home in Huntingdon, Tennessee surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

He was born April 15, 1944 in Plant City, Florida to the late Loyd James Hires and Katherine Yancey Ward. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Ward and sister, Frieda Studstill. One surviving brother remains, Curtis Hires.

Eddie shared an enduring love with his wife of 55 years, Margaret (Margie) Hires. Those years together were filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. His legacy lives on through his children: Charlotte (Phil) White, Liz (Mike) Brooks, Debbie (Ben) Ellington and Robbe Hires.

He was a Papa to five grandchildren, Kevin Simmons, Jessica Easton, Dallas Brooks, Nick Ellington and Chelsey Ellington. He was Opa to six great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Madison, Clinton, Gabe, Nolan and Addison; one great-great grandson, A.J.

After high school, Eddie joined the Navy Reserves and later enlisted in the Air Force, where he went on to develop a love for planes. During the Vietnam War, he was an aircraft mechanic.

After serving his country, he transitioned to working for several major airlines in different capacities including mechanics. He ultimately retired from World Airways as a safety auditor. He was able to travel the world in this role and was able to share many of those trips with Margie for lasting memories.
