Robert Don Hires

Mr. Robert Don Hires, commonly known as Donnie, age 69, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly after suffering a stroke on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 21, 1956, the son of the late Robert and Dona Hires. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Danny Hires.
Donnie spent his life serving God and serving others. His friends say "there are those who talk the talk, but Donnie walked the walk". You could always find him with a smile on his face and a truck driver joke ready for delivery. He was a loving husband, father, Papa, minister and mentor. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Sandy D. Hires; children, Jennifer (Lee) Croxton, Alisha (Scott) Gumerson, Brent (Tanya) Shores, Cricket (Brad) Willis; grandchildren, Cara Bratcher, Zack Croxton, Seth Croxton, Dustin Shelton, Caitlyn Shelton, Taylor Jackson, Braxton Willis, Tucker Willis, AbiGrace Willis, Kolbi Willis, and Kristen Shores; great-grandchildren, Layla Bratcher, Joel Croxton, Jax Bratcher, Riley Shelton, Cillian Hobgood, Rowan Hobgood, George McKenzie, Liam Shelton, Pressley Croxton, and Brooks Willis; sister, Barbara (Mike) Cannon; nephews, Michael (Leigh) and Eric (Kelley) Cannon; as well as several extended family members and a host of great friends.
A service to honor Donnie's life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.
