Codi Schutz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors - East Chapel on Mar. 6, 2026.
Codi Franklin Schutz, age 32, of McDonough, Georgia passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family in the early morning hours of March 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with esophageal adenocarcinoma. He was born on March 21, 1993, in Ojai, California, the son of Donald Franklin Schutz II and Heather Hansen Polley.

Codi was a pillar of faith and a true servant of God. He spent his days living out his faith and serving the Lord as a youth pastor at Sharon Church. He was heavily involved in his community, including serving as Chaplain of multiple sports teams at Ola High School. He ministered to youth as early as his first job at Eagle Ranch. He loved serving on mission trips both locally and abroad to Guatemala, Uganda, Jamaica, and Nicaragua. He played soccer from elementary school throughout college, where he played at Piedmont University. He loved to golf, play pickleball, spend time outdoors, play lots of games, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, building, making art, and so much more - he truly enjoyed and excelled at most things he tried. He never left a conversation without having made a new friend. He took every opportunity to show them the love of Jesus by being his hands and feet in every opportunity - he loved without limits and showed compassion and kindness for everyone he met.

His love for his "wifey," Chandler, will forever impact us all. He loved her as instructed by God, as Christ loved the church. They served alongside each other, and served each other well. They have so many "kids" through ministry that will continue to carry on Codi's spirit and mission to share the love of Jesus.

He is survived by his loving wife, Chandler, and his furry best friend Blue; his mother Heather (Eddie) Polley, his siblings Collin (Emily) Schutz and Caden Polley; his nephew Elijah and niece Scarlett; his brother in law Jeffrey (Mallorie) Rutledge; his mother in law Dawn Rutledge; father in law Wayne (Erica, Madie, Gavin); his grandparents Joseph Litton, Bruce Hansen, Sue (Jack) Thomas, Linda Travis, Marion Polley; his aunt Tabitha (Mike, Nicole, Loren), aunt Lori Lacey and family, aunt Debbie Gannon and family, and many other loved family members that God brought together. He is preceded in death by his loving father, Donnie Schutz; his grandparents Debbie Litton; great grandparents Elma and Richard Bowman, Donald Schutz, Edward Polley, Rae Russell, and Richard Russell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the foundation Unshaken Generation, founded in Codi's honor that will help send students on ministry related trips including mission trips and student camps.
