Robert Hodina Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes - Willoughby on Mar. 31, 2026.
Robert Allen Hodina, age 66, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Mentor, Ohio. He was born on May 11, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived a life defined by dedication to family, service, and the simple joys of the outdoors.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, and his parents, Betty Jane Hodina (née Anderson) and Richard "Dick" Allen Hodina, his brothers Edward Hodina and Richard Allen Hodina Jr. He carried their love and values with him throughout his life.

He is lovingly remembered by his three sons, James, Adam, and Christopher Hodina, who were the center of his world, and by his grandson, Logan Hodina, who brought him immense pride and joy. Robert is also survived by his sister Bonnie (Marc) Bittner and nieces and nephews: Elizabeth (Rusty) Bergandine, Dawn (Vishnu Kumar) Bittner, and Douglas (Ashley Romina) Bittner. He will be fondly remembered by his great nephew George whom he held dear, and nephew Jason, niece Stacy Sterner and great-nephews Cole, Charlie, Noah, and Leon.

A graduate of Mentor High School and Lincoln Technical Institute, Robert built a lifelong career rooted in hard work and skill specializing in water treatment. He devoted 27 years of service to the City of Willoughby, where he was respected for his reliability and dedication. Following his retirement, he continued to pursue his passion for building and creating, working on numerous projects alongside his close friend, Ron Welsh.

Robert's life was also marked by his commitment to scouting. As an Eagle Scout with Mentor Troop 104, he embodied the principles of leadership, integrity, and service from a young age. He remained actively involved in Boy Scout leadership for many years, mentoring and guiding countless young people.

An avid camper and adventurer, Robert found his greatest happiness in the outdoors, sharing countless trips and memories with family and friends. He especially enjoyed planning road trips, often traveling to Florida and Indiana, where laughter and togetherness were always at the heart of the journey.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Robert on Saturday, April 11, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Avenue, Willoughby. Visiting hours will begin at 2:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tina Green of Fairport Harbor Congregational Church.

Robert will be remembered for his steady presence, his willingness to lend a hand, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the memories that will be treasured forever.
