Robert J. "Bob" Hoerter, 88, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at Heritage Woods of Huntley.
Born on August 24, 1937, in Rugby, North Dakota, Bob was the son of Joseph and Edna (Schlimgen) Hoerter. He attended Minot High School, graduating in 1955, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1960. During his undergraduate years, he was a member of the NROTC and later served in the Colorado National Guard.
Bob began his career with Montgomery Ward in Colorado before relocating to Chicago in 1968. In 1973, he transitioned into automotive sales, where he built many lasting friendships that enriched his life. Following retirement, he dedicated his time to volunteering at Northwestern Medicine in McHenry.
A man of many passions, Bob was an avid train enthusiast and proud member of the Del Webb Train Club. He also enjoyed traveling, photography, and bird watching. Above all, he cherished his family and the time spent with them.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dianne, whom he married on August 8, 1970, in Crystal Lake, Illinois; his children, Justin (Tiffany) Hoerter and Jessica Childers; and his grandchildren, Allison and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna Hoerter.
