Robert Holmes (1948 – 2026)
Robert "Red" Holmes, age 77, passed away on February 9, 2026, surrounded by love.
Red was born in Pittsburgh to the late Robert and Anna Holmes.
He grew up in
Monroeville, PA, graduating from Gateway High School in 1967. He was known, not
only for his iron cross in gymnastics, but also for the fact that he painted the original Gateway Gator
mural on the high school gym wall. After high school, he also graduated from the Art Institute and
Dean Tech. He was known as an incredibly hard worker and held many job titles, but he was most
proud of his work on generators at Westinghouse Electric.
In addition to being an accomplished artist, Red had a seemingly endless number of hobbies that he
enjoyed. He loved fishing, treasure hunting, metal detecting, casinos, the Steelers, cars, and his
Corvette. But most of all, he loved his family.
Robert was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Deborah Holmes. He was also preceded in
death by sister Dorene Douglas, brother Ronald Holmes, brother Michael Holmes, sisters-in-law,
Glenda Holmes, Jorja Seidl, Michele Parente, and brothers-in-law, Randy Parente, Frank O'Brien,
David Seidl, and niece Brett Douglas, and nephew Mark Graw.
He is survived by daughters Shannon Guenzel (Christopher) and Autumn Lauritzen (Daniel),
grandchildren Aria Stanley (Andrew), Fiona Lauritzen, Blase Guenzel, and Greta Guenzel.
He is also survived by brothers Brian Holmes, Craig Holmes (Elizabeth Buhmann), sisters Erin
O'Brien, and Terry Gallo (Jerry), as well as sisters-in-law Suzanne Holmes, and Tracy Neiderhiser
(Michael).
He is also survived by so many nieces and nephews whom he adored: Josh Parente (Kaitlyn), and
Sara Stead (Steven Napier), Staci Lockwood, Dawn Chrisinger (Ed), Brian Holmes, Lauren Ray
(Dan), Jacob Neiderhiser, Byron Croker (Jessica Dixon), Lara Costa (Robert), Jennifer DiSiverio,
Jolene Sunseri (Ryan), Heather Douglas, Nicole Simon, and Elliott Douglas.
Lastly, he is survived by too many friends to name, but including Teresa Guenzel, The Guenzel
Family, The Lauritzen family, Ray and Judi Dibiase, Karen Schap (Jerry), David Adelman, Amanda
Parente, Frank Cutruzzula, The Gateway "Group," and his Falcon Ridge Family.
Services for Robert will be private, but a Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday March 28 th with
details announced soon.
Robert loved Conrad's Concert a charity started by his daughter Shannon and son-in-law,
