Robert Gordon Hooper passed away on May 25, 2024. He was retired and living in Houston, Texas at the time of his death.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Hooper (nee Shuler); his children, Pamela King (Rodney) and David Hooper (Coryn); his grandchildren, Jordan King (Stevey), Bethany King, Grant Hooper (Kate), Kyle Hooper and Alyssa Hooper; and his great grandchildren, Peyton King and Kassandra Hooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Clinton and Maude (Bumgarner) Hooper and his brothers Kenneth, Wayne, Raymond and Ralph Hooper.
Gordon was born on July 28, 1935, in Cullowhee, NC. He graduated from Cullowhee High School in 1953 and served in the US Army for two years. On October 2, 1959, he married Sue who was originally from Dillsboro, NC. He graduated from Carolina Business College in Charlotte, NC. Gordon worked in the IT Department for the Mead Paper Company for 37 years. He commenced his career with Mead in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he progressed within the company which required him to relocate to Kingsport, TN and return to Chillicothe, OH.
Gordon was a very proud and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time on outdoor activities. He loved to play golf. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, NC, will be handling all arrangements for the family. There will be a service at the funeral home on June 22, 2024, at 11:00 am followed by a family service at the Hooper Cemetery, Cullowhee, NC.
