Robert Hooper Obituary

Bob Hooper was surrounded by his loving family and friends when he passed away on September 19, 2025 at sunset. Sunset was always a favorite time of his in his country home in Lander, Maryland, which he built and lived in for over 50 years.

Bob was born April 29, 1942 in Frederick, Maryland, which his family has lived in for five generations. He was the son of Betty Markey Hooper and Jim Hooper. Bob graduated from Walkersville High School in 1960, and from Gettysburg College in 1964 where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After college he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army and served in Germany.

Bob worked as a financial advisor and investment broker for 62 years in Frederick. He started at Baker Watts, which later became Ferris, Baker Watts and most recently for RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) for 16 years.

Bob loved and supported Frederick for his lifetime and sat on many boards: The Rotary Club, Frederick Community Foundation, The Civil War Museum, and was on the Board of Trustees for The Record Street Home for over 50 years. He also supported Hood College in many ways, including a scholarship fund in his name and serving on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2021.

Bob leaves his beloved wife Kathleen Stacks and his loving daughters, Erin Hubbman (Martin), Cody, WY, Kathryn Burkhardt (Peter), Chesterfield, VA, and his cherished children by marriage, Brian Stacks (Brandy), Washington, D.C., Kara Locke (Brent), Miami, FL, and Laura McGuinness (Billy), Manassas, VA. He loved spending time with his wonderful grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Burkhardt, Stephen and Charlotte Rawlings, Morgan Stacks, Jackson and Charlie McGuinness, and Noelle, Nala, and Brayden Locke. Bob also leaves his dear sister, Libby Stauffer (George), Frederick, MD. and his two nephews, Andy and Tom Stauffer. Bob also leaves many wonderful cousins in the Markey and Hooper families.

Bob and Kathy loved to travel including trips to the Delaware beaches and living wonderful times with friends in both Frederick and Bethesda/Chevy Chase. Bob's favorite pastime was riding his bicycle on the C&O Canal and the many backroads of Frederick.

Visitation will be held at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home at 106 East Church Street in Frederick, Md. on Monday, September 29 from 10am-12:00pm with a funeral service starting at 12:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Md. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to The Community Foundation of Frederick, The Record Street Home, or Hood College.

Bob and I grew up in the same community. I greatly admired the business relationship he had with my Dad. Bob was very appreciative and respectful of Dad.
