Arthur Hooper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborn Funeral Home - Shreveport on Jan. 5, 2026.
Arthur Greysteel "Grady" Hooper, III, was born on September 14, 1936, in Monroe, Louisiana, and passed away on January 2, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana, following a lengthy illness.

Grady lived most of his life in Shreveport, where he graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1955 and later attended Centenary College. He began his career with United Gas, where he worked for five years, and went on to a long and dedicated career with AT&T/Lucent Technologies, retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service.

In February of 1958, Grady married the love of his life, Delores. Together they shared more than 67 years of joyous love, friendship, and devotion.

He was an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church since 1958, faithfully serving as a greeter for over 40 years. Grady generously gave of his time to others through volunteer work with GREAT (a therapeutic horseback riding organization for challenged children) and was also involved for several years with Charles Colson Prison Ministries.

A gifted woodworker, Grady loved inventing and creating unique projects and was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-It." He was a charter member of the Shreveport Track Club and the Red River Runners, competing in marathons and triathlons for many years. When he retired from running, he turned to cycling and remained an avid cyclist for many years thereafter.

Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Hooper and Arthur G. Hooper, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Delores Hooper; his daughters, Rebecca Anderson and husband Chris, and Nicole Bain and husband Col. James Hall Bain; his sons, Dr. Steve Hooper and wife Kristi, Jeff Hooper, and Jon Hooper and wife Angelica; his grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Hooper, Scott Hooper and wife Camila, Harrison Hooper and wife Shae, Kaitlin Martin and husband Levi, Madison Fields and husband Patrick, Haley Bain, Logan Anderson, Noah Hooper , Anna Lindsey Hooper and Grey Hooper; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Penny Hooper Booth; his brother, Roger M. Hooper; and cousins Kay Dean, Gay Matthewson, and Rosie Smith.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 12:55 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church, officiated by Dr. John Sullivan. A private family burial will take place at Forest Park East Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Dr. Christopher Hooper, Scott Hooper, Harrison Hooper, Noah Hooper, Grey Hooper, and Logan Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Tom Harrison Pastoral Ministries, P.O. Box 5104, Shreveport, LA 71135.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Grady's devoted caregiver, Janice Hurks, who loved her "Poppa" like her own and went above and beyond in her care, becoming his hands and constant comfort.

Dad was an amazing father and a devoted husband who showed us what love looks like through his actions. He was our steady anchor, our quiet strength, and always our biggest supporter.

My dad was a man of faith and unwavering character. He taught our family the value of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and made sure we were in church every Sunday and choir every Wednesday. His faith wasn´t just words-it was a way of life, and it shaped who I am today.

Dad believed in giving back and serving others. He showed me that true greatness comes from humility and helping those around you. He introduced me to the importance of building character and appreciating the beauty of nature through summer camping trips to Shady Lake, Arkansas. We also shared countless spring canoe trips to the Buffalo River, where I fell in love with the Ozark Mountains and the Buffalo National River.
He taught me the importance of developing a strong work ethic-doing things the right way, never taking shortcuts, and always standing by your  word.

Dad was a man who kept his promises and was always ready to lend a helping hand-to neighbors, family, and friends. His life was a living example of integrity, kindness, and service.

One of my favorite memories goes back to when I was young. Normally, we´d play catch before dinner, but one day was different. Dad took me into his workshop and showed me a stack of flyers he had created for me-with a man pushing a lawn mower and our home phone number printed on them. I still remember that number to this day: 318-861-2394. He said, "Jeff, I want you to put these flyers on every house in a three-block radius." He handed me rubber bands and encouraged me to start the next day after school. That moment wasn´t just about mowing lawns-it was about teaching me responsibility, initiative, and the value of hard work. It´s a lesson that has stayed with me my entire life and helped mold me into the man I am today.

Dad, there are not enough words to describe the positive impact you had on me, our family, and the Shreveport community. Thank you for everything-for your faith, your love, and your guidance. We will carry your values forward and honor you in the way we live our lives. Your legacy lives in us, and we promise to keep your light shining. We love you, and we will miss you always.

I´m so so sorry to hear of Mr Hooper´s passing. Growing up on Norwood was a blast with all the neighborhood kids and all of our parents being close friends. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
