Robert Huddlestun Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - Bubb Chapel on Feb. 9, 2025.
Robert L. Huddlestun, a cherished and respected member of the South Bend community, and a man known for his intelligent and loving nature, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Mishawaka, IN. Born on September 26, 1932, in South Bend, IN, Robert's life was marked by diligence, creativity, and deep devotion to his family and faith.
Graduating from South Bend Washington-Clay High School in the class of 1950, Robert soon found his calling as a wood pattern maker. His career began with an apprenticeship at Studebaker in South Bend, and his exceptional skill and vision led him to Elkhart Pattern, where he continued to make significant contributions to the industry until his retirement at age 62. Because of his ability to design intricate molds that others couldn't envision, Robert was recognized across the country for his craft.
In his personal life, Robert was known for his profound love of family. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane (LeMasurier) Huddlestun, on March 9, 1951. Their encounter on the first day of their senior year of high school blossomed into a love that endured until Diane's passing on September 4, 2018. From this union came two loving children, Terri (Larry) Lies and Michael (Julie) Huddlestun, who further enriched Robert's life with the addition of his adored grandchildren, Rebekah (Carl) Cole, Michael (Katie) Huddlestun, Jonathan (Julie) Lies, and Jessica (Mark) Chrobak, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Christopher, Addison, Raegan, Clayton, and William.
After retiring, Robert, alongside his wife Diane, relished the opportunity to travel and visit new places. However, he found equal joy in the simple pleasure of fishing at the lake or spending an afternoon with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His involvement with his church was a testament to his faith and his commitment to community.
Robert's legacy is carried on by his remaining family members: his brother Don Huddlestun; sister Lorna Vail; and the many lives he touched with his geniality and wisdom. Though preceded by his wife, Diane; his parents, Robert W. and Bernice (Kramer) Huddlestun; and his sister Jane Scheid, the imprint of his spirit remains a guiding force for those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. Services will immediately follow starting at 11 a.m. All being held at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545. Pastor Jake Ballard will officiate the services. Procession will follow the service to St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park for Robert's final resting place.
Memorial contributions can be made in Robert's name to the Center for Hospice 501 Comfort Pl. Mishawaka, IN 46545 and/or Timberland Bible Church 16623 IN-23 South Bend, IN 46635.

Terri and Michael,
So sorry to hear of your dad´s passing. Your parents were very kind and welcoming when I visited after our high school years. My best to you both and your families during this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss, Terri. With Mary Beth's medical condition, doubt that I can attend visitation or funeral. Praying for both of you.

Terri and Michael,
What a gentle soul your father was... he always had a smile on his face and was very kind. I shall think of him when I make baked beans. I know he enjoyed them. Your families are in my thoughts and prayers
Coleen (Lorna´s daughter-in-law)
