Robert “Larry” Humphrey March 14, 1941 – January 24, 2026

Robert “Larry” Humphrey passed away at his home in Gillette, Wyoming, on January 24, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1941, to Kenneth and Phyllis Humphrey.

Larry was a proud and humble man who was never afraid of hard work or of doing things his own way. He took great pride in knowing that his strong work ethic was passed down to his children and grandchildren.

Following in the footsteps of his father and brothers, Larry shared a lifelong passion for baking. After attending baking school in Chicago, he purchased his first bakery, Lake City Bakery, in Polson, Montana, with Marilyn Humphrey. He took an undersized, dreary building and transformed it into a vibrant and thriving bakery and restaurant, which his son Mike and daugher-in-law Deneya continue to run today. Later, he opened a bakery in Gillette, Wyoming—Breanna’s Bakery—named after his first granddaughter.

Larry was known as one of the finest scratch bakers around, a talent and dedication to quality that set him apart and reflected a craft that’s become a rare art. He continued working and baking well into his 70s, until his health no longer allowed him to do what he loved most.

Beyond his baking, Larry enjoyed fishing and hunting—two longtime passions that he proudly passed on to his sons.

Larry is survived by his siblings, Harold Humphrey and Sharon Sterling (Paul); his children, Mike Humphrey (Deneya), Cathy Richardson (Dave), and Todd Humphrey (Delia); his grandchildren, Breanna, Nicole, Noah, Riley, and Raegen; and great-grandchildren, Zeke and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Phyllis Humphrey, and his brother, Jack Humphrey.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family is grateful to the Gillette community for the years of friendship and support shown to Larry and his bakery. A special thank you is extended to his bakery manager, Lisa Erickson, for her dedication, care, friendship and keeping the bakery running when Larry was no longer able to work.

This summer, Larry's family will honor his memory by spreading his ashes at his favorite fishing spot in Montana. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to honor Larry’s memory by sharing a baked good with someone you love.
