Robert William "Bob" Hunger

Robert William Hunger, 76, rejoined our Heavenly Father on November 3, 2025. He left this life in the same quiet way he lived it, never one to seek the spotlight, he chose to return home in the peaceful hours of sleep.

Bob was born on April 30,1949, to Hans Otto and Helen Hunger, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his older sister, Janet, grew up in the Foothill neighborhood, where he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts and an avid youth bowler, and somewhere along the way he learned to love playing the accordion. He spent many, many hours entertaining guests at weddings, dinners, and other events. He was a one-man band.

After graduating from Highland High School, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where he fulfilled all his duties until his honorable discharge in 1973. He and Ann Allred were married on August 15, 1969, and had 4 children together, April, Lance, Lindsey, and Heidi. Though his marriage with Ann ended, they had a lifelong friendship that their children admire and are so grateful for.

Dad's career as a radio DJ took him to Montana and Wyoming, and he worked at TV stations in New Mexico and Utah. He later drove bus for UTA for 20+ years, and then drove for Central Trucking, eventually retiring from Central as a driving trainer. After he retired, he volunteered at Union Station in Ogden, at the train museum. He inherited a love of trains from his father.

Dad was a man of few words, content to just watch the events and people around him. He was soft spoken and gentle in spirit, never raising his voice or showing anger, even when we fed his precious stash of Jelly Bellies and cashews to his dogs. We spent Saturdays at the magic shop downtown, summers camping and fishing, and 4 th of Julys at Sugarhouse Park or lighting off fireworks in his backyard. If we were lucky, we'd even get a quick ride around the neighborhood on the back of his motorcycle.

Dad met Kim Casper, his love and best friend, in 1991. They spent their years together traveling all over. He loved the ocean and going on cruises. They danced, went to concerts, learned how to paraplane and flew all over the west desert.

Dad found joy in small, simple things… peanut butter and honey sandwiches, chocolate cake, Kenny Rogers, his puppies, watching NCIS, but NOT (as he finally admitted) home improvement shows, and visits from loved ones. His silly, sarcastic humor made everyone around him laugh. He never realized his own worth, but made us feel like we were the most important people in the world.

Dad's circle was small, but those he had, he cherished dearly: Kim Casper, his children April and James Ames, Lance and Carolyn Hunger, Lindsey and Brian Oveson, Heidi and Jake Horrocks. His grandchildren Keely, Shelbi, CJ, Bradford, Nathan, Sarah, Amy, Naomi, Grace, Robert, Lauren, Lizzi, DJ, Kindra, and David. His great-grandchildren Keagan, Lily, Callum, Jacob, Evelyn, Addison, Gideon, Jacqueline, and one great on the way.

We imagine a beautiful reunion as he was surely welcomed into the arms of those that went before him: his parents Hans and Helen Hunger, his big sister Janet Hunger, and his son-in-law Jake Horrocks.

We invite all who loved Dad to join us at a viewing on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City. A graveside service will follow, at 12:30 pm, at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 S. Vine Street.

Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at Ivy Brook Assisted Living for their four years of loving care. You understood his sense of humor, and loved to joke with him. Finally, a very special thank you to Mark, his hospice nurse. You brought him comfort and dignity in his final weeks. We are forever grateful!
