Robert John Ihrke, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of 84.
A devoted husband and father, Robert, shared more than 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Martha. Their partnership was a true example of love, loyalty, and commitment. Together they created a family rooted in strength, devotion, and generosity. Robert was a steady and caring father to his daughter Tonya, and a supportive father-in-law to Michael Jakubic, always leading through example, compassion, and quiet wisdom.
Robert took immense pride in his grandchildren-Aaron and Hannah Jakubic and Alex Jakubic-and his life was brightened even further by his great-granddaughter, Charlotte, who brought him endless joy in his later years.
One of Robert’s greatest joys in life was supporting his grandsons’ love of hockey. For more than 15 years, he traveled across the Midwest and into Canada, never missing an opportunity to watch Aaron and Alex play. He was deeply proud of them both, cherishing every game, every trip, and every moment spent cheering them on.
Born on October 3, 1941, Robert lived a life defined by service, craftsmanship, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying the values of honor and commitment with him throughout his life.
After his military service, Robert built a respected 30-year career with General Motors in skilled trades. Known for his precision, reliability, and strong work ethic, he earned the admiration of coworkers and friends alike.
Beyond his career, Robert’s greatest passion-and one of his lasting legacies-was building. As a licensed builder, he constructed more than 20 homes, including several for himself and Martha, multiple for Tonya and Michael, and one for each of his grandsons. His skill and dedication also touched countless family members and friends through the many projects, repairs, and improvements he willingly took on. Creating, fixing, and helping others brought him joy, and the homes he built will stand as a testament to his craftsmanship and his generous heart.
Throughout his life, Robert also had a deep love of animals. Early on, he was devoted to his dogs, and in later years, his beloved cats became constant companions who brought him comfort and companionship.
Remembered for his warmth, humility, and steady presence, Robert leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and hard work. His influence can be seen in the family he cherished, the people he helped, and the structures built by his hands and heart.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Andiamo Fenton - 102 W. Silver Lake Rd. Fenton, MI 48430 - Sunday December 7th 12:00-2:30. (Remembrance at 1:00) Robert will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Adopt-A-Pet or the Alzheimer's Association, in his honor.
Robert will be forever missed and forever remembered.
