Robert Jasset Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home on Feb. 20, 2026.
Robert "Bobby" G. Jasset of Cumberland, Rhode Island, formerly of Newton, Massachusetts, passed peacefully after a brief illness on February 18, 2026.

He was born in Newton on August 2, 1936, and was predeceased by his loving parents, Walter S. Jasset, Sr. and Bertha (Lambert) Jasset. He was also predeceased by his siblings: Edward L. and Joan (Glynn); Willard J. and Mary Rena (Vienneau); Pearl M. and Francis (Poirier); Norman F. and Phyllis (Cummings); and Walter S., Jr. and Theresa (Sampson). He is survived by many generations of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bobby lived in the family homestead for 82 years and was well known throughout the neighborhood, where he enjoyed talking, telling stories with everyone and lending a hand whenever small jobs needed to be done. Life wasn't always easy for Bobby, with complications from birth to cancer. , then the homestead being sold as he could no longer live alone. He had a lifelong love of construction equipment, especially backhoes, bulldozers, plow trucks, and could often identify a vehicle's year and model at a glance. He was able to tune up small machinery and keep things greased and oiled. One of his favorite sayings was "Do you have time for a coffee? Bring a jelly donut as well!" He could always be found around the yard raking, trimming the hedges, cutting the grass, or sitting on the front porch watching traffic waving to everyone he knew going by.

Always having lived "in the lake" a section of Newton also known as Nonantum, he could be found for many years helping around town. Whether it be at Victory Market, stocking shelves, the American Legion setting up chairs, Our Lady's Help of Christians cutting grass, visiting with the Carey's at the clock shop or with Andrew at the funeral home driving a flower car. Bobby enjoyed trips with his brother Walter and his family to Maine for almost 20 years helping. Bobby was known as a "gentle soul" who never spoke an unkind word and cherished time spent with his extended family and friends.

Funeral arrangements made by Andrew J. Magni & Son FH. A viewing will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, on Friday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 AM with a funeral mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Newton Cemetery.
