Robert Worthington Johnson Jr., 84, died in his sleep on February 7, 2026 at Dogwood Village in Orange, Virginia. Robert worked for the Northern Virginia Park Service, City of Norfolk Parks, Greenbrier Farms as well as VDOT in Suffolk, Virginia. He was also a member of the Army Reserves. Aside from his work, he was an honorary member of the Gloucester Garden Club, member of the Portsmouth Assembly, longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, as well as Ware Neck Episcopal Church in Gloucester. Robert enjoyed sailing, fishing, antiquing, and reading comics in his daily newspaper. Close family and friends can also remember the joy his purple OP shorts and yellow Crocs brought to him and those who got to see him wearing them. He loved flowers and plants, which he became an expert at caring for over the years as well as from his degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his daughters Susan J. Estes and husband, Jim, and their children, Grace, Eli, and Samuel; Clare J. Kincaid and husband, Travis, and their children Zach, Maddie, and Owen; brother Reese Johnson and wife, Dody, and nephews TW Johnson and Bryan Johnson and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jean Johnson, father Robert W. Johnson, mother Phyllis Johnson, and brother Thomas Johnson. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Ware Neck Episcopal Church. Light refreshments with the family will be provided in the church afterwards. In memory of Robert, the family would like any contribution to be donated to Ware Neck Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 616, Gloucester, Virginia 23061.
