Robert Arthur Johnson, Sr. of
El Dorado, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2026, in Wichita, just days before his 92nd birthday.
Robert was born on March 13, 1934, in
Buffalo, Oklahoma, to Willard Johnson and Doris Fern (Ripple) Johnson. He grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Laverne High School with the class of '52. He later attended Wichita State University, where he earned his associate's degree.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career as a welder, working for several companies throughout his life, including Cessna Aircraft. His skill and craftsmanship were so highly regarded that he was invited to teach welding classes at Wichita State University, where he shared his knowledge with future generations of welders.
On January 12, 1957, Robert married the love of his life, Ruby Alice Stapleton, in Council Grove, Kansas. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared memories. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in September of 2017.
Robert was a man who truly enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing and hunting, spending time outdoors whenever he could. He was always tinkering with cars and could often be found in the garage working on a project. John Wayne movies brought him much pleasure. He also loved playing cards, especially the game of Pitch, and enjoyed the camaraderie and laughter that came with it.
Robert will be remembered for his strong work ethic - often working two or three jobs at a time to support his family - his skillful hands, his love of family, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Rosemarie "Rose" (Bob Janssen) Wilson, of El Dorado, Lorena May Case, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Robert (Rachael Lopez) Johnson, Jr., of Garden City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Jane Dean, Doris Fern Fothergill, and Paula Jean Matkins.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Alice Johnson, his parents, his daughter, Silvia J. Johnson, and his brothers, Leroy and Kenneth Johnson.
Memorial donations in his name may be directed to the family, in care of Rose Wilson.
Visitation will be at 9:00 am on Friday, March 13th 2026, at Carlson Funeral Home with a funeral service starting at 10:00 am. Robert will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Benton Cemetery.
