Major Robert E. Johnston, USAF Retired.

August 28, 1935 - December 28, 2025

Bob Johnston, born in Decatur, Illinois, recently living in Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully in Brentwood, TN Sunday morning at the age of 90.

He spent his life serving his country with both the US Navy and the Air Force. He retired in 1981, and worked in many industries including: Civil Service, sales, management, teaching and transportation. He enjoyed the outdoors playing golf, fishing, hunting, and other sports such as racquetball. His highest priorities were serving Christ, loving his wife and loved his family. He married the love of his life, Sylvia Anne Phillips on January 24th, 1959 in Joplin, Missouri.

He is survived by his Wife of 66 years, Sylvia and their children, Michael Johnston(Sally), David Johnston (Tracy), and AnneMarie Bisarek (Scott); his grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Evan, and Zachary Johnston, and Scotty Bisarek; and great grandchildren Oliver and Ford Johnston; and his brother Joe Johnston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Byron and Marie Johnston, and grandson, Jared Johnston.

There will be an open house and celebration of life, Saturday in Brentwood. He will be committed and buried in a private service at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with Honors.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or Veterans Organizations.
