Robert Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kilpatrick Funeral Home - West Monroe on Dec. 23, 2025.
Robert Harlan "Bob" Jones of West Monroe, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the age of 81. Bob was born on March 20, 1944, near Oak Grove, Louisiana to the late Elton Jones and Vera Bee (Knight) Jones.
Bob graduated from Crossett High School in 1962 and then attended Northeast LA State College (ULM) where he met Jane. They were married in 1965. After they both graduated in 1966, he joined the United States Air Force. The most challenging part of that time for them was when Bob was sent to Vietnam leaving behind a 6-month pregnant Jane. When Bob returned, their only daughter, Kim, was 9 months old and life took off from there.
Bob continued his education at Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) where he earned his Masters in Education, Masters in Administration and Supervision, as well as a Certification in Counseling. After working as a Biology teacher and counselor, he moved to the Ouachita Parish School Board and remained there for 20 years. His official title was Director of Testing and Accountability, but during his many years there he wore many hats and most at the same time.
Bob found his true calling as a grandfather after his grandchildren were born. When their family was transferred to Texas with State Farm, Bob retired after 33 years in Education so that he and Jane could join them. The next 17 years were wonderful and filled with lots of activities.
One of the things that Bob was most proud of besides his grandchildren, was his years spent serving as a deacon. He was honored to be ordained at First Baptist Church Delhi at the age of 26. He then also served at North Monroe Baptist Church, First Baptist Church West Monroe, and First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Texas. Bob traveled on many mission trips serving in various ways like construction or cooking or anything that needed to be done. He also used his teaching background to teach Sunday School working with a variety of age groups, but spent most of those years teaching Senior Adults.
Bob spent the last two and a half years at the West Monroe Guest House where he enjoyed building relationships with the staff and sharing his personality, character and encouragement with others. He used his time to share his beliefs with any and all that entered his room. His first question was always, "Are you a Believer?" The family appreciates the therapy, and the love that was shown to him. He loved having visitors and was able to reconnect with so many friends after being gone for so long. Thank you to all that visited. Until the very last day, he loved talking about old times and lit up with a smile when he saw a friend come through his door. The family would also like to thank Pastor Todd Gregory and his wife, Donna, for coming every Sunday to preach and lead music.
Bob is preceded in death by both of his parents, Elson and Vera Jones; his brothers Jerry Jones and Tommy Jones; and his sister, Patsy Barnett. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jane Jones, of West Monroe, Louisiana; his daughter, Kim Jones Connor (Ryan) of Georgetown, Texas; his grandchildren, Cole (Andrea), Case (Bree), and Karlie; and his sister, Linda Schutte (Leslie) of Cushman, Arkansas; his special sister-in-law, Linda Jones of Bee Branch, Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Kilpatrick's West Monroe. The memorial service will be held on Monday, December 29, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church West Monroe Feazel Chapel with Dr. Mark Fenn officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at NELA Veteran's Cemetery in Rayville, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe.
Serving as pallbearers will Polk Bryan, Keith Hammack, Richard Hartley, Randy Reynolds, Eddie Thomas, and Larry Tolar. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be special friends Mike Allen, Joe Lane, Tony Malone, Roger Snowberger, Hollis Strickland, Bob Webber, Dale Welch and Dale White.
We want to acknowledge a special thank you to Elara Caring who walked us through these final days with amazing compassion and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to your own church home or favorite charity.
